Our optional prompt for the day also honors the idea of Saturday (the Saturdays of the soul, perhaps?), by challenging you to write an ode to life’s small pleasures. Perhaps it’s the first sip of your morning coffee. Or finding some money in the pockets of an old jacket. Discovering a bird’s nest in a lilac bush or just looking up at the sky and watching the clouds go by.
Holy Saturday
18 April 20
0758
It’s never been about taking a rest
It’s about not having to follow
Two days to repair
The damages of the week
And the first day of recuperation
Is stocked with distractions
For years I’ve filled it with
Mountains of nothing
Now I watch as my children
Begin their journey
And as I try to make their lives less complicated
I’m learning to let things go that don’t matter
Building mounds of meaning
Reclaiming my childhood
Giving myself the chance
To believe again
