You slipped into our house
Dark, sleek, invisible
No noise at all emminated
And you found your way
Into impossible nooks
We thought we’d have to wait for the telltale smell of death to find you
Hunger took over your instincts
And when we heard you rustling in the bedroom that’s when we really saw you
We renamed you ninja
Because we lost you in a locked room
You were so tiny
And you never cried out
You slowly began trusting us
And soon you slept in our bed
It took awhile but you began to tolerate the children
They learned from you how to be gentle
You began talking to us and our other cat
In your quiet mew
With one clouded eye
You see more of our insides
Than we are willing to admit
When you nuzzle your head into our arms
We are being told to pay attention to what matters
And at those times it is you
Beloved ninja please be patient with your human companions
We done posses your vision or wisdom
Beloved ninja thank you for choosing us
We are learning from “the least of these”
